520 Chain
Hey does anybody know of a non o-ring 520 chain that will be ok for a 929? Thanks
|
So, an X-ring chain?
|
I know there are x-ring chains that I could use but I'm talking about just a standard non-sealed chain. I can't seem to find any rated high enough.

Why are you specifically looking for a non-sealed chain? |
I am putting the engine in a dirt bike frame for hillclimbing and don't want the drag associated with a sealed chain.
|
Would I be safe using a Renthal chain rated to 750cc?
|
I would think so. I've used chains rated for 750cc on my 954
But there's two issues that I don't know about. 1) If you're hill climbing, how long of a chain are you running? If it's a LOT longer (which I suspect it is), then that might also put additional wear on the chain. 2)You're not cruising around on it ever, you're just beating the hell out of it because it's a specialized bike used for hill-climbing. So I don't really know if it's safe or not. If it breaks and you're at WOT - it could kill you or take a leg off (and destroy your bike). |
Check out EK DR-2 or DRZ-2 chains. They come in 530 and 630 only and are non o-ring chains for drag racing which will work perfect for your application.
The DR2 chain is a non O-Ring chain designed for drag race use only. Recommended for stock to lightly modified bikes with extended swingarms. Perfect for big displacement engines or those with dry nitrous kits. 10,500 lbs tensile strength, non O-ring. Standard nickle finish. The DRZ2 chain is a non O-Ring chain designed for high horspower drag race use only. Used by the quickest and fastest streetbikes on the planet. Also used by NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles. Non O-ring, 11,500 lbs tensile strength. Standard nickle finish. |
The swingarm is extended about 8-10 inches so yeah the chain would be about 20" longer than normal. I would like to just stay with a 520 for simplicity reasons and universal sprockets etc. between my bikes for gearing changes. I know of some guys I have seen using 520 for this application with no problems but will look into the DR-2 and DRZ-2 EK chains mentioned above.
