Default 2012 cbr1000rr shifting issues

I just bought a 2012 cbr1000rr. I'm having problems with shifting from 4th to 5th gear. The bike has about 150 miles on it and when i shift 4th to 5th gear it gets a false neutral and the shift indicator reads --. This has occurred about 20 times now. Has anyone else had this problem?

I know this sounds kinda weird, but you may not be pushing up on the shift pedal hard enough. It can be your foot positioning causing this or even the type of boots you're using. The shift pedal is adjustable, I'd move it down just a smidgen and see if it helps at all. I used to get random false neutrals on my s1000 on hard shifting and adjusted the shift pedal down a little bit and now it's all good.

Agree with raylee about pedal position but would suggest it is possibly too low at the moment.

My mate was having the same issues and it turned out the pedal was not being returned to its central position after a change. Lifting the pedal very slightly sorted it.

It could also be the chain too loose - they do stretch initially in early miles before they settle down. ( does it feel like you are hitting the gearbox with a hammer when you select first ? )

There's a lot of load on the drivetrain in 4th/5th gear. Mess with the pedal and see if there's a difference. If that doesn't work, take it back to the dealership, the warranty should still be good.

Just make sure you check the basics before the stealer sees the bike.

Oil level is the main one - low oil level can cause some issues - these new bikes only have around 3ltr to work with and need to have the oil level monitored closely.

The stealer will charge you for their time if it is something basic like an oil level too low.

I take some exception to that. I work at a dealership and I try my damndest to help any rider regardless of whether I'm on the job or not and our service department does their best to help the customers with whatever issues, especially when if we messed up your new ride.

"These new bikes" have the recommended amount of oil from delivery so if that's the case, you should be able to have them take care of it for you.

Then every credit to you for taking care of your customers.

Unfortunately the same can not be said for most of our stealers - they seem to specialize in trying to find any excuse to refuse warranty work.
