2006 cbr 1000rr engine temp question
1st time posting. I hope I'm in the right place. I bought a 20006 cbr1000rr about 3 weeks ago. It has 36000 + miles. I noticed when I had it idling in my garage that the engine temp slowly continues to rise. It got to 220F and I put a furnace fan on it to cool it to 180F before shutting it off. I'm more of an auto mechanic but that seemed high to me. I did some reading and it doesn't send a "High Temp" signal until 253F. I took it for a ride on a 55F day. At 60 + mph it stays right around 170F give or take 5F. When I got into town, the temp started climbing up into th 180F pretty quick. When I got back up to 55mph it lowered to the @170F.
I'm thinking maybe the thermostat is stuck open or water pump vanes are worn out. ???
The other strange thing to me is the thermostat is supposed to start opening around 176F and be fully open at 194F but the cooling fan kicks on around 120F. The previous owner hasn't returned any calls from the dealership as to whether I can call him to ask any history on it. The dealership said they wouldn't worry about the temp. I have most the winter to get it ready for spring,I'd like to make sure it's ready to ride.
I have replaced the coolant and it seems to be circulating in and out of the reservoir as it should so I think all the air is out of the system.
Anyone ever had something similar happen to your bike? Ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Are you saying your temp got to 220 and the fan hadn’t kick in ? My 05 fan would be on by then ( just ).
Similar to yours, she gets warm quickly in congestion but looses it just as quickly once I’m moving again.

The bike fan kicks on about 120F but the temp keeps climbing. I used a squirrel cage shop fan to cool it from 220 down to 170-180 so I could shut it down. I'm just worried if it will cool itself on a 90 degree day this summer. I was afraid to let it climb any higher than 220F to see if it reached a point it could cool itself and quit climbing. Maybe I'm over thinking it.
Thanks
