+1 on changing the oil. And collect it. pour it into the empty bottles and see how much you really have. My question about the side stand has to do with the actual oil level. Bike has to be standing straight up & down, not on any stands to get an accurate read. BTW, when you checked was the bike hot or cold?

oK I got issues:

I installed the new battery and now it starts right up and did not die when I drove it around the neighborhood. However:

1) I was about to change the low oil when I noticed the coolant is below the "low" hash as well. This explains the high running temps and the low oil explains the light flashing. Now, can I do the flush on my own? I'm decently handy with instructions.

2) You know the gold cylinder thing that is attached to the suspension? ( i forget what it is). Well it looks like cap is missing and what is exposed looks like an air valve on a tire. Is it ok to ride with this exposed (once I change the oil and coolant)?

Thanks guys. It's 70 degrees and all wanna do is ride.

Is it a big no-no just to top off the antifreeze if I don't know brand in there now? I don't see why it would since all antifreeze is ethylene glycol. Assuming it is a quality, non-silicate brand, can I just top off the coolant?

If that's a bad idea, can I top off with distiller water?
