Default 2003 cbr600rr MIL issue

Hi folks,

Struggling here, have been round a few loops trying to sort this one. I bought a 2003 cbr600rr over ebay from a crook...basically. The bike needed a reg/rec after he said the battery needed charging and I've been chasing an ecu fault for months (only needed an oil top up, apparently?!!)

Anyway, long story short, the ecu is gubbed. I've heard mixed reports about being able to change only the ecu but also heard that it's an ecu + key set/tank lock etc that needs replacing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Which is it?!?

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Mark,

Sorry to hear about the bad experience with getting a bike. Do you a manual for the bike? I highly recommend this for troubleshooting. I’m terms of replacing just the ECU and lock/set, you only need to replace the ECU. There are no electronic chips on the keys. Once you get the bike up and going, you’re going to love it. I’ve got an 05 600 RR that I’ve had for 11 years.

If it has HISS, you will need to match the key to the ecu.

Thanks for the replies guys! Yea I thought that the key needed matching. I'm looking for a working ecu and blank transponders and have a YouTube how to guide for reprogramming. Struggling to find a working one so if anyone has one??!?

Im sure I sound shifty asking about reprogramming keys and being a new member! If there's anyway for me to verify that I'm genuinely not a crim, please let me know! More than happy to provide pics etc.

So bit the bullet and bought a new (to me) ecu and transponder. I got the ecu from a well known supplier in the UK. After speaking to him when he assured me that he was "99% sure your ecu is blown based on the symptoms". So I got it, plugged in and now have 2 new errors and was as the original one! And the 2 new ones are 23 and 24 which should only apply to cali bikes. The ecu he sent was code G so EU. No idea why he sent that as he told me he had UK spec in stock, but surely there must be something wrong with the ecu if its firing codes for a part that was never fitted?!?

Has anyone got any idea what might be causing this? The only other issue I had was the reg rec which I replaced. Help would be really appreciated!

Contact the tech line for the supplier.

I've bought a couple new keys for my bike and have never programmed it. I just bought blanks off eBay and then had them cut. That was it.
