Default 2000 F4..Running lights?

Picked up a 2000 F4 not too many days ago, hoping someone can help me diagnose a problem.

When the ignition is in the on position, the right front indicator turns to a solid light, while the left front is off. Does this bike have running lights up front? I can't figure out what side is faulty without knowing if any lights are supposed to be on.

Also, their appear to be two lights in the tail section, but only one comes on as a running light. The other comes on when you engage the brakes. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help..

Sounds like you might have a wiring problem. You should have running lights on both sides up front and your two rear lights, which double as brake lights(should be on always then brighter with brakes applied), if i'm not mistaken about what your tail section looks like.

Do you have aftermarket turn signals up front? Most aftermarket turn signals do not incorporate the runnning lights.

Check the bulbs. the rear ones are dual filament. Its late but if im not mistaken the front bulbs are single filament, but the signals run through a relay and a turn signal flasher can so the switch cuts the steady power and makes it flash. does the left signal work?

I believe the stock lights up front are dual filiment, not single. Look at the wires going the blinkers, if there are 3 wires, they are dual filiment. If there are only two, then they are single filiment. as said, you should have running lights up front as long as they stock.

the light that is staying on, is a signal to you that you have a burned out bulb. Once you swap out the burnt bulbs, it will go off. While your there, you might as well just change out all of the bulbs. If you have two burnt out, the others are fairly close behind.

Thanks, I will give the bulbs a check tommorow. I figured with one solid it was an electrical issue as opposed to bulbs, but I did not realize they were dual filament bulbs. Both signals do blink fine, it it just one side will always be solid if it is not indicating.

They are aftermarket, although I am not sure which brand because they came with the bike. Thanks for the information on the running lights.

I noticed there were 3 wires going into the bulb when I was looking at it today, but they are going into an aftermarket turn signal so perhaps that is the issue. I will try the easy solution first and replace\swap bulbs and see if that changes anything. TY.

Just as an update, turns out it was the bulbs. They will take 2 weeks to get here if I order them from the dealer, as they don't have them in stock. Bummer, but oh well at least I know that was the problem. Thanks for the info all.

2 weeks for a light bulb? wtf! Just go to the local auto store/truck stop, they can't be that exotic.

Yeah, I was hoping I could have picked them up there as well. I tried Shucks auto supply, Home depot etc..no one had either of the bulbs, so I just gave up and went to the dealer..they had none in stock and will have to special order them..doh.

any advance auto, oreilly or autozone should be able to order those bulbs and get them faster than the dealer if they dont already have them in stock. ive never bought bulbs from the dealer.
