Default 1996 F3 died while warmin up..no start issue help

Hi, Brand new to the street world and purchased and 1996 F3 two months ago in okay condition. Previous owner says it needs a CCT change as it is loud and there was some issues with the head light turning on (it's random) but all and all it has been a scream! Anyways,

I started it up the other day to warm it for 3 min.s and it just died. After reading some forums. I tried to turn it with clutch without clutch w kickstand without kickstand all lights work, kick stand light works turn signals work. Tried turning on the run switch and nothing. Not a sound. I checked the main fuses...all in tact.

A few days later waiting for to find a clymers I decided to clean the ignition switch last night and now the head lights work. Tried with a battery jumper and still nothing. Not a sound. Please give me any advise out there as i am jonesing to get back on the saddle! Thank you all!

Is there some type of kill switch anywhere? Again just waiting for the manual and new to this so any direction is better than none! THanks!

Welcome to the forum and we're glad to try to help. Try to be as specific as you can in your description of what happened and the things you've observed regarding what it will and won't do. What things do you see when you turn the Ignition Switch to the on position ? Any lights ? The Engine Stop switch on the right handlebar should always be in the Run position, it's for emergencies only. When you hit the Start Switch, what do you notice ? Sounds, lights ?

Hey guys thanks for the quick responses. All the non start issues are with the ignition on and all lights work, but no click from the starter.

Good news though. After letting the bike sit overnight with CRC cleaner in the switch I tried to fire it up after work. nothing. With the tank off I wiggled some wires in the relay battery area. Stared a long time at the bike..perplexed. Wiggled more wires and decided to try it again and ^&^(* the damn thing finally started cranking???????

Now it ran and then it died again. Took the battery to the Zone and they charged it saying that it was good to go. Now I luckily have the bike with me at work.

Does anyone know what the heck could be wrong with it??? Gremlins. Any preventative maintenance I could do? New battery? or fuel filter where should I start as I have limited funds?

I think you have a dead short somewhere leaking low current to the frame. It's draining your battery.

what I would do, look over the entire area where you wiggled the wires and any area around it where wires may have moved too and just slowly and carefully look over all the wiring running thru there for bare spots, small brakes, or anywhere a wire may have gotten pinched. I know on most the bikes I've ever worked on the wires are wrapped, so there could be a small spot on the bottom side that the wrapping has worn thru or possibly burnt thru a little and is causing it to ground out. All it takes is 1 little wire to have a bare spot and you're not going anywhere

also, once you figure the issue out, I would use wire looming on all the wiring over it's original wrapping. That'll help lessen the chances of wires rubbing bare, getting pinched, or getting burnt by the heat generated from the motor if they happen to sit too close
