1989 CBR600F intermittent starting trouble
Hi all,
After spending eons surfing through web sites and even this forum, I have given up and finally decided to post my problem. There are actually 2; I am hoping they are not related. Its obviously not a new bike compared to what the others are riding in this forum, but I am hoping your expertise surpasses the age of your bikes.
Problem 1
I am having an intermittent starting problem with my CBR. It starts up fine some days regardless of the weather or whether its been on a long ride or just sitting in the garage for a few days. However, on some occasions, the bike will not start no matter what. The starter turns over, but the engine does not fire. If however, I push start the bike, it fires up pretty easily. The carbs are clean, the fuel pump is fine, the jets are clean. The battery is new and I did replace the rectifier a little while ago (close to 2 years ago maybe). The spark plugs are clean and have a nice brown colour to them. They do spark when grounded on the bike.
Now, I make it a point to park the bike somewhere near a gentle slope in case I need to go for plan B ! Its very frustrating and I am losing confidence in the oldie.
Problem 2
Now we come to the choke. Does not work and only ends up bogging the bike on all settings.
Any ideas, suggestions and comments would be more than welcome.

RE: 1989 CBR600F intermittent starting trouble
Mine did the same thing. At the end of the carb assembly theres a little **** for lack of teck terms, that the choke pulls out, adjust the choke to be snug at this point. Also lubricate cable and adjust. If the carbs are bad, I like to take off tank, connect my dirt bike tank to the carbs, expose the intakes and use seafoam, man that stuff is great. Also adjust idle.
