05 1000rr Engine Knock after warmed up
Just started having a loud knock. Its a 05 1000rr, I have 16k miles on it. I only notice it after its been ridden for a while and hot. Also has a little ticking sound. Not sure where the knock is coming from, sounds like the bottom end tho. Any way I can check if its the bearings without ripping it all apart? I have a Jardine pipe and no power commander. I also accidentally filled up with 89 the other day and ran it dry and just filled up with 93 and still the same. I put a long screwdriver to it and couldn't pinpoint where it coming from. At first i thought it was pre detonation because i have no power commander but it sounds more like a knock. I just ordered a tensioner for the tick hopefully fixes tht and ill check my valve clearance. But not sure how to go about figuring out the knock. Could it be the knock sensor? also When it does knock its not constant and has no pattern, and i can only hear it at idle at around 1.5k rpm.

It sounds normal to me. 1000RR's, at least 04-07, have rather noisy engines. I do hear a slight irratic, really faint knock, but my 05 does the same thing when its warm, and it always has since I bought it new, and have around 19,000 miles on it now, they truly are pretty noisy engines. I do notice the noise get a little worse as the oil thins, around the time the oil needs to be changed. How many miles do you have on your oil?
The other thing I have noticed, is my engine is quite a bit quieter when running Amsoil synthetic. Im really not sure why, but it is. I ran a different oil a few oil changes back and the noise was pretty loud. I switched back to Amsoil and the noise went way down. But it definately makes a lot more noise when its warmed up versus being cold.
So unless Im just not hearing it right over the video, it sounds normal to me, with the possibility of needing an oil change.
A powercommander really wont help the noise. A powercommander can help some fueling issues, but the factory ECU fuels good enough for a slip-on, as it really doesn't affect anything.
The valve inspection is a good idea. I checked mine at 17,000 miles and they were all in spec. But its definately ready for the inspection in case some are out of spec.

I guess the video didnt catch the knock well enough. It sounds kinda bad at times. And to tell u the truth i kinda started to beat on it more when it does. So when i do that i cant hear over my pipe and im happy haha. But the noise is still there when i come to a stop and at idle. The clicking comes and goes at times and is also kind of annoying. Thanks for the input though.
