Default 01 f4i Electrial

Has any one had this problem? My f4i started breaking up and now wont run I have no front lights no blinkers in front and fuel pump does not run. My guage says shows that my blinkers are working and hight beam is on but have nothing. I have a manual and have checked relays fuses etc. All rear lights and blinkers work. The manual indicates there is a 10 amp fuse between the engine stop switch and the ignition can not find it. The next step is checking the ECM does anyone know if this can be checked with out bringing the complete bike to the dealership or has anyone had a similar problem. Help please Thanks

Yep, just dealt w/a very similar situation on my 2000 F4. I should make a post on it but I'll reply here first.

Ok, you've checked your fuses, headlight bulb, signal/rear-light connections & all seems sorted out properly but still has a problem. Make sure your battery is still good.

Its possible that your rectifier/regulator is going/gone bad. If you put a new battery in it, like I did, it should start right up & run but eventually, it will die again due to bad R/R. At first, I thought I just had a bad battery & replaced it but when it died again, I knew there was a bigger problem.

Do your electrical readings on the R/R & battery.

I replaced the R/R w/ another factory Honda R/R & the bike started right up (w/ orig battery, after a recharge). There were no voltage drops or spikes. So, I knew it was working properly.

Then, I realized my headlight was out. I checked the bulb, that fuse up front, the fuses in the box under the seat, traced the wiring front to back...but still no clue what the problem was that was keeping the headlight from working. After much head-scratching & some tedious hrs of aggrevation, I found what it was...the starter switch was going bad. Yep, the starter switch!!!

The starter switch on F4/F4i's is on the same circuit. Once started, it releases power back to the headlight. Make sure that it is popping all the way out. If it doesn't come all the way out, you won't have a headlight. When you hit your starter button, it shuts off the light to direct all avail power to the starting of the bike. Once your bike is started, the light returns. If the switch isn't fully out(engaged), the light won't come on. I know it sounds too easy but check that switch. You might be pleasantly surprised. You can spray some wd40 in that switch to help it move more freely again.

Its possible that my bad starter switch caused the R/R to have problems & ultimately cause its failure. If the switch wasn't fully engaged, it wasn't a completed circuit. Nevertheless, it was good to replace my R/R w/ the one that supercedes the old one. My new one has fins that the old one didn't. All works fine now.

Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Pull the front fairing off, there will be a rather large connector on the left side where the headlight/front end harness plugs into the main bike harness. Unplug that... it may be a little bit hard to get undone if it already started melting the connector

There will be a solid green ground wire in one of the very end cavities of the connector.... after getting the connector unplugged, look inside and you'll most likely find the pins are burnt for that green wire due to a poor connection.

You can either replace the harnesses, or do like I did and just take that one wire out of the connector, cut off the burnt terminals and use your own to connect the two wires together outside of the terminal. Be sure and fill the connector with dielectric grease before plugging it back in to keep water and corrosion out

Sounds like what it is to me

Thanks for all the help ended up being the green ground in the connector plug. The ground ended up getting melted and caused all that to go out. Thanks for the replys again!
