On other forums - I get "mandatory read threads" which, when I sign into the forum, I have to go into a certain thread before I can access the rest of the forum. Usually, on the certain site that I'm talking about, it's for ROTM. This way, they get hundreds and hundreds of votes. It would revive that contest here.

You could make that each ROTM voting thread a mandatory read thread, and when members log on, they get a prompt where they have to go to that thread. I bet most will vote - and it only takes a few seconds.

If they really have a problem with it, as soon as they go to the thread, they can then access the rest of the forum. They wouldn't be forced to vote. I think the problem here is that most people have forgotten about the contest (I know I've been guilty of that a few times). This would fix that.

the only problem i see with that is: it can be cumbersome at times, when every time you sign in, your forced into that page even after in some cases have already voted for that month..i used to use a website that would do that with voting and other mandatory Reading of the site and anyway i got sick of that pretty quick and just stopped visiting all together.. so hopefully if your idea actually catches on, i hope they program the servers to recognize peoples screen names instead of IP address and your only plopped into thaat area of the site only once a month opposed to: oh great new address lets send them this way..
anyway still good idea... just trying to share my experience..also this time of the year peoples heads are on the holidays , im not surprised voting has been down..

 

It's only once a month and it's only one time, you don't continuously get the mandatory read. You get the prompt once, and that's it. It would be for each member - not IP addresses as only members can vote. Someone, I assume Kilgoretrout (because he's in charge of the ROTM) would set up the voting thread, a mandatory read would go out on like the 20th or so, and that'd be it. Once you go to it once, it's over. And like I said, it doesn't force you to vote, it just takes you to that page when you sign in one time. You can leave it as soon as the page loads.

I just think it'd be better to get ROTM back on track. It's on life support. I know there are people here that would like that concept. It's nice to showcase your hard work that you've put into your bike.

 

i think part of the problem with ROTM is the entry process. gotta have recent activity, posts, pic in the gallery, nomination, seconds.... there's a shortage of fresh options every month that meet all the requirements.
some sites just take all comers and let the voters sort it out.

But that is a valid point. Perhaps it needs a little tweaking. Unfortunately we have some pressing bidness affecting the forum but once we get a minute to breathe we will consider some revamping of the ROTM process.

Just a simple email reminder to each and every member once a month that the contest is now active. and the candidates will or have been selected.. this will do two things.
A: remind members that the contest still exist and is running.
B: actually remind other members that haven't been around in a while, to come back..
