Default Woot! Chain snapped on highway

here is a summary of what happened:

Riding back from Saigon Mall

HOV lane on US-75 NB

Was going 80, blipped the throttle a bit, lost power

Looked at mirror to see chain flying away and me slowing down still

Pulled as far left as I could

Five minutes later an ambulance, a fire truck, engine and two squad cars showed up

Called Progressive and they sent out tow assistance which I am glad I pay the $1/month for

I chilled with one of the officers in his car waiting for the tow truck. He was really badass.

45 minutes later tow truck arrived, loaded up the bike, and helped me push it up the driveway into the garage. Gave him a tip cause he was pretty cool

Probably just gonna reorder the chain the previous owner install on here. Orbit 525 xring

Holy Crap man that's some crazy ish! Let me get this straight, you have your chain literally snap on you, yet you decide you want to replace it with the SAME chain? You must have some massive huevos.

Well, I am not sure of the cause yet of why it snapped. It is a very new chain, could have been improperly installed. What chain do you guys recommend?

Wait, when you say same chain do you think I am putting the chain that snapped back on? If so, nope. I am ordering a brand new one. That chain is laying somewhere on the highway.

What do you mean the officer was a real badass? Was he copping an attitude or was he just really cool??

And what joelacer is trying to say is...the brand that snapped, would it not give some piece of mind to maybe go with a different brand? By your own admittance you don't know why it snapped...so perhaps a different brand of chain may be a smart move.

Yep, I second!

I think the OP was saying that the officer was cool.
Sounds pretty cool if he let you chill in his cruiser till your tow came.

Man this whole story could have been BAD!!
But it wasn't. It was good! All is well!

My brand new 525 chain snapped the same way. Full power no clutch shift from 2nd to 3rd at redline with a passenger, all a sudden Im in nuetral no matter what gear I choose. It had maybe 1000 miles and 2 weeks on it. I did NOT get the same chain the next time. When mine let go it hurt the rear sprocket a bit too so I got new ones front and back. Decided to go with renthal sprockets and a RK 520 series and have been o so happy since. I have at least 1yr and 18,000 miles on this setup with no problems.

What style was the Master Link? Clip or rivet?
