I just put a f4i motor into a kart. I hook up all the wiring and the guage cluster shows nuetral light and FI light only. When I turn off the ignition switch the nuetral light turns off, but the FI light dimms and I see some dim characters displayed on the guage cluster.
I have no spark, no fuel.
1 relay clicks when ign is turned on
I cut off all unnecesary wires for turn signals and lights.
Whats going on?

 

Now I'm no expert on this or anything, but from reading other threads on topics such as this, it tells me that you may have shot yourelf in the foot when you cut off all of the so called "unnecessary wiring" for the head lights and what not. I believe you need all off that for the engine to work fire up you may need to close of the circuits or something instead of just cutting them off.Now if I'm wrong I'm sure somebody will correct me but if you take some time to browse through some of the old threads you will see what I'm talking about.

 

Hopefully one of the track guys can tell you what they do with that wiring for their bikes because they dont use signals or a headlight either.

 

turned out to be thw pink wire going to the ignition. since the motor went into a kart, i cut off the ignition.
I installed a 2.2k resistor and it started up.
Found this after doing some searches.
As for cutting the signal/headlight connectors.... it has no effect whatsover.
Those can be safely removed and the kickstand switch has to be shorted.

I still get no readout on the guage cluster though. Any ideas?
