What is this spring?

Hey all,

Hopefully this is in the right section, I'm new to the site (and cbrs too). So I just bought a 2002 f4i :D, and morning after I got it home I found this weird little spring underneath the bike. It's pretty stiff (i cant pull it apart at all with my hands) and both ends can spin if that helps. No idea what it came off of. Nothing looks like it's missing anything, and the bike still rides fine. Bike is stock except for a double bubble and a 2 brothers shorty.

Thats just a spring youll find on the majority of exhausts that hook on to the midpipe on one end and the muffler on the other to hold them together. They usually have 2 of them but when i took them off of my jardine the muffler couldnt be pulled apart from the midpipe anyway so i dunno how functional they were.

Im not sure if the old two brothers exhausts had them or not, if youve got the new one that uses the xring to bolt the midpipe to the muffler it probably just came from a different exhaust that was on the bike. Just check where the midpipe and muffler meet, if yours has em youll see 2 little metal loops welded on for it to attach to and you can just put it on with a pair of pliers. If not just throw it out.

edit: you can see em in this pic right here on the top and bottom of the midpipe

When I first started reading this I thought you were referring to the rear shock, I almost said you may wanna get rid of the bike if you don't know what that is haha. And yeah that's gotta be a spring for the exhaust.

Okay thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't for the brakes or suspension or anything like that. I'll see if there are any mounting points on the exhaust.
