check your manual for the proper oil change interval.
it's every 4K.

as far as oil...it's all up to you...any oil not labeled as energy conserving will work, but others will tell you motorcycle specific oils only, then others will say syn. moto specific oils only, etc...

I've been told the slippery kind is good. I like the kind that's kinda golden color. I hear the stuff that comes in the bottles is good too.

Shell Rotella T (blue bottle) Wall Mart, $16.22 a Gal, and Purolator pure one PL14612, ( PL14610 is about 1/2"longer, should also fit,) about $7 at Pep Boys.

Scroll down to bottom, you'll see whatt these guys recomend and can not recomend, suprisingly, K&N, Honda are not recomended. Honda, motorcycles mostly are the Class 5 type on these sheets, I only use the Purolator Pure ones Now, works out great, our two accords, my daughters Civic, and all four of our Honda Motorcycles all uses the same filter now, and it's also amazing how the Wall Mart Super Teck filter is rated above many of the popular and more expensive brands.

I've always used Honda oil and K&N filters
the K&N filters have a 17mm nut on the end with a hole drilled through it for safety wire. Now if I only had to change my oil every 4,000 miles, I would probably go with a higher rated one but I change my oil/filter every race weekend so this makes it a LOT LOT faster and keeps it as painless as possible, and using a hose clamp on a filter to safety wire it is a major PITA

I've gone through AT LEAST 40 of these K&N filters on two bikes and I've never had a single issue, no pinched o-rings, oil leaks, etc. The filters have never fallen apart or anything else to cause any concern so I'll keep using them. Of course I get them at below dealer cost so it doesn't cost me too much to use them

Check this guys test out, it's pretty interesting, this is what I call doing research, but I have to admit, in 30 yrs of changing out bike and car filters, I have never had an oil or oil filter related failure, but i like how he list the type of media filter, teh area of filter material etc... I like how he shows the K&N filter is made by Hi Flow with a $6 nut welded to it, and the Wall Mart super teck filter is made by Champion, teh same folks who make Bosch and Mobil one filters,
