What exhausts are interchangeable?

Ok, so I'm looking for a good deal on a used aftermarket pipe for my '05 F4i. Do you know what all years will fit this bike, or does it depend on the brand of pipe? I've got one spotted from an '01, but I don't know if it'll fit my bike. Any ideas?

Thanks

any year f4i will have the same exhaust setup

For the most part. All California models and all 06 F4i's have an 02 sensor in the mid pipe. Just watch out for that, make sure you get an exhaust that does/doesn't have it (depending on your bike).

I put a Gixxer 600 exhaust on my F4i, Yosh RS-3 carbon fiber, it took a little fab work, but I made it fit.

I'm curious as to what problems you think may come about from having a O2 bung in the midpipe of a standard 49 states F4i? Reason being that I have have a non-California model but the exhaust I just put on came with an 02 bung in the mid pipe. Obviously It's not open, it's capped off but I just don't see why that would be a problem.

it wont be a problem

Yeah, no problems at all, just plug it and go.

How important is tuning?

Excellent, thanks guys.

One more question: Most new exhausts I've looked at say tuning is recommended, but not absolutly neccessary. I read that about a 2 brothers and a Muzzy. What kind of tuning are they talking about? Are they only talking about carb'd bikes? Will I really need to change anything?

Thanks again

the tuning they are talking about is re-mapping of the air/fuel ratio. The most common option is a power commander. It is not necessary as the air/fuel ratio will not be thrown off so much as to harm your bike. However, to take full advantage of an exhaust or intake upgrade you would want to re-map the air/fuel ratio. This relates to fuel injected bikes.

Only the opposite would be a problem (49 states pipe on a Cali bike).
