Default What a bad tire looks like

Sup guys and gals,

I've tried searching but just cant really come up with anything... What does a bad tire look like? I just bought an 02' f4i with 7k on it. I've done all the maintenance stuff like change the oil, anti freeze, lube/tighten chain, tire pressure, but cant tell if my rear tire is going bad.. I'm really tight on expenses now that i bought the bike/ transferred the title/ got full coverage insurance so suggestions on a cheap tire for long distance highway drives (2+ hours) and around town would be awesome!

Thanks for any feedback!

Here's an article on tire wear: LINK. Touring tires will give you the best bang for your buck. The trade off is though, they won't provide as good of grip as softer, sportier tires.

look up tomahawk tires. there a good balance of long distance wear and grip, plus at only $150 a set they are about half the price of regular tires

Craigslist - got a set of brand new battlax BT016's for 200. Guy's wife made him sell the bike because of the cliche "baby on the way." Had my old set for 5k miles and only really needed the rear, but for 200, bought both.

I always change my tires when they start getting flat in the middle and the grooves in the middle of the tire start to fade away. There is still a lot of life past the groves yet, but it wont push water away as effectively.

they look flat in the middle. what the hell do you want. If you dont know when they were put on or the front one doesnt feel round, or the rear is flat in the middle CHANGE IT!

ITS YOUR LIFE!. oi cant say that i would be sad if everyne who actually used the term "b0i" got mangled in a motorbike getoff..

It just so happens I have a pic. Also up above in post #2 there's a link on tire wear.

The left one is used (duh), and you can see in the shadows, how it's cubed. Also, if you'll notice there's like white strip starting at about 3/4 of the way up, down the middle. That's the metal/nylon thread showing. It means you have barely 1mm of rubber left (very bad).
