Default well, just got back from the scene of my accident

so i just lowsided about an hour ago. i was goin down an unfamiliar street in a gated community. the road i was on was downhill and curved to the left. i was approaching an intersection and looking for the road in front of me, when i realized that it was a t-intersection and not a 4 way. there were no stop signs, or any street signs for that matter, and no lights. by the time i realized that i was approaching a curb, i straightened out and braked, but couldnt stop fast enough. rear tire locked up and i slid on my left side into a curb.

im in pretty good shape, just about a half-dollar sized road-rash on my left knee and a tiny bit on my ankle. i had on my helmet, jacket, gloves, and some jeans. my head didnt even touch the ground, but my jacket took up all the road for my upper body . my jeans tore up and thats how my leg got road rash on it.

if my forks werent bent, the bike wouldnt be too bad. looks like i cracked my tail fairing, left fairing, the upper and windscreen, and front fender. upper stay is bent, left mirror snapped off, and left clipon is all screwed up. and, unfortunately, the forks look tweaked a little bit. but the gas tank and right side look almost perfect. but my insurance is probably gonna total it. (ill buy it back and make it a track bike )

so what did i learn? when your riding unfamiliar roads, be more careful than normal. i was going maybe 25mph tops when i started braking, which is the average residential speed limit. i just hope that people realize "man, another person went down. i should really make sure to be careful so that im not next on that list."

that sux man, glad you're ok. good thing for gear! the bike was lookin good when i was just over there. if your insurance doesn't total it i can help u fix it. i replaced rotors, front wheel, front tire, forks, etc, the whole front of the f4i was trashed. also bent the subframe and the exhaust got snapped off. so i can definately help u fix it back up if so. i got a fairing stay too

dude that sucks. sucks bad, even worse to trash your bike in a neighborhood putting around in 2nd gear.
but at 25mph, I dont understand why you couldnt stop? unless you were like 2ft from the curb when you seen it.

youshould be able tostop a bike from 25mph on a dime, .....

re-read your post, back tire locked? I've done that and found out ---DONT DO THAT. you dont need the rear, especially in a panic situation becuase that is exactly what happens.

glad you're ok mang...

no no on rear brake and downhill, it'll lock up sooner than straight road.

PHXf4i, thanks for the offer to help rebuild it. im not sure whats gonna happen with it until the insurance guy comes on monday to check it out.

krash, i think the reason was just because im a new rider and i panicked. i saw the curb and thought "oh sh*t" and then got on the brakes and when the tire locked up then i really panicked. ill have to remember not to use the rear brake next time.
