Warming up bike before driving
Where does it say the importance of warming up the bike before driving it?
Is this a sure thing? Reason I am curious is because with fuel injected cars it isn't always important to warm them up and some in the manual it actually says it is better to drive it right away, rather than have it sit idling. |
RE: Warming up bike before driving
Its ok but I wouldn't ride it hard till it got hot. With 10-40W oil Its 10w when it starts up cold then turns to 40W (thicker)when hot.

That's kinda what I am thinking. If it isn't warm already I just keep the revs low until it gets up to speed. It usually doesn't take very long at all.

RE: Warming up bike before driving
I always wait until I see somewhere around 105-110 on the temp so I know the oil is flowing before I take off.

My RR idles at the regular speed during cold starts. i just wait until there is a temperture reading before i start to ride and i keep the revs low until it gets to around 150.

10w and 40w... oil isn't thicker when hot... if it were, then you'd do the oil change when it was cold, not when it was warm. Hot oil is like piss - cold oil is like molasses.
You warm the bike up to get the oil up to tempature, to get oil around the entire engine (when left to sit oil drops to the lowest point and the upper portion of the engine will have less oil than when it is operating), and to get the engine itself warm... as the tempature changes so do the clearances. |
