Default Valve Adjustment - No Clearance?

hey guys. im currently in the process of checking my valves on my f4i, but it seems like i cant fit the feeler guage between the cam lobe and the lifter at any of the 4 check positions. it looks like the lobe and the lifter are always in contact with each other. i have done valves before on cars, but not on bikes. i am following the manual step by step.

also, should the CCT be out of the bike or installed while checking them? the cam chain seems pretty loose.

EDIT: i think i have an idea to what it might be. the notches on the cam gears dont line up with the case when the crank index mark lines up with the case. is it possible that with the cam chain being loose that i could have jumped a gear tooth on the chain when turning the engine over?

you took the CCT out? it could be very very possible that it jumped a tooth, i think the manual tells u take it out only if your going to be adding shims.

I could be wrong but i think while reading that i could have sworn i caught that. If it doesnt like up then it jumped a couple tooth possibly.

Default RE: Valve Adjustment - No Clearance?

When I adjusted the valves on the EX250 I found that the timing marks did not line up with the cam lobe positions. I just rotated the crank until the first valve was in proper postion, measured, adjusted, then rotated the crank until the next valve was in the correct positon. I dont know if my motor was out of time or if this is normal. Hopefully someone knows the answer because I would like to know myself. I want to do the valves on the CBR this summer. I also bought a APE CCT to replace the stock one with.

I would not remove the tensioner until you decide if you need shims.

well i thought the manual said to remove the cct, but it just says to retract the tip of the cct. i had it removed :/ but i didnt shim the valves or anything, i just put it all back together. it seems to be running the same as it did before. i would be able to tell if the timing was off, right? wouldn't it be causing all kinds of problems?
