Used ECU swap?

I have a 2001 f4i that is not starting and the dealership is telling me it is a bad ecu. I asked them about finding a good used one and they told me that each ecu is programmed for the specific bike. I asked if they meant specific make, model and year and they said no the actual bike. I have read where people have swapped out their ecu and wanted to make sure this is something I can do. The dealership wants over 1k for a new one and I can find used ones online for around $200. Can someone please let me know if this is doable and if so if there is something special that needs done other than unplugging old one and plugging in new one?

Thanks in advance for the help.

As far as I know, only models with HISS are programmed so the ignition and ECU match.

New ECUs may come blank, but I don't see any reason why a used one wouldn't work.

Thanks for the reply.

One more question, any idea what the difference is between the 2001 CBR 600 F4 A vs AC is? There appears to be a different part number for the ecu depending on the A vs AC.

AC is probably the CA model with an oxygen sensor.
