RE: Trouble in 1st gear
now i dont know much about streetbikes seeing as how i dont have one yet, but on a dirtbike we have a sequential gearbox. i assume streetbikes are the same? anyways, the gears dont always line up exact in the gearbox, meaning when you go to engage a gear (first gear happens alot, if you were to sit with the engine running and the clutch in, you probably wouldnt be able to get higher than 4th gear) you have to rock the bike back and forth a little bit. this turns the wheel which in turn turns the gearbox. rock back and forth while tapping down and it should pop right into gear. something ive never thought about on a streetbike until i saw this post, but on a dirtbike it happens all the time. maybe this will help? im a n00b i dont even have a bike yet, been cruising through the forums for a while now though.

I hear ya!!! I have the same trouble! I guess we should down shift while the bike is coming to the stop. like gdharp600 said.
i also have a really touchy clutch, sometimes i stall. the 600f4i is much different than my little ninja 250.
If i hear anything good, i'll give ya the scoop!!![sm=smiley4.gif]

RE: Trouble in 1st gear
I had this same problem when I started riding my bike. I was used to riding my four-wheeler and that would always shift to first gear, no matter what. But growing up I rode alot of dirtbikes and had the same problem and quickly remembered the 'give him a push' quote.
