Tranny dogs grinding.
My f4i tends to grind from first to second at high rpm I don't think it's the clutch and lower rpms are smooth as butter. I'm running rotella t6 10w 40 full synthetic and the bike only has 5000 miles. It doesn't do it every time just when I'm really on it. When I preload the shifter it reduces the grinding but doesn't get rid of it. Any ideas on what I can do.

Worn shift fork perhaps? Try actual motorcycle oil and see if it makes a difference [probably won't but worth a try]

What is a shift fork

Would always use the clutch when going up 1 to 2 , but when you preload the shifter for going up the other gears do you throttle off slightly to change gear without the clutch?

No clutchless shifting

Yes certainly bring the idle down to correct idle speed

Do you blip the throttle when changing down and is there any problem there?

Then hopefully the right idle speed should sort it out
