Tradgedy... almost.

Tradgedy... almost.
I was entering a right hand turn today at a safe 60mph not doing anything stupid, being cautious, but nontheless I'm still riding on a bald tire, - not smart. Anyway, when I arrived at the apex I hit a patch of loose gravel that I had overlooked (the gravel just blends in with the roads too well) and the rear end slipped out from under me, so I tried to stay calm and stood the bike straight up in an attempt to not lowside and to try and slow down, but when I did that I was headed directly into the oncoming lane with a loose rear tire which continued to slide to the left while the front kept wanting to go right. Then the rear started to chatter and suddenly hooks up and by a miracle I wasn't bucked off. I then ride into the weeds at about 35mph and lightly apply the rear brake and come to a dusty halt. That's the closest I've been to going down and now I'm looking and evaluating my riding habits. I've overcome target fixation although it is still a challenge and I have good riding posture (no death grip on the bars, elbows bent not staright, ***** of my feet on the pegs with my legs holding onto the gas tank and my lower back holding me up.) I keep playing it over in my head and I guess I did the right thing or was blessed one. Either way, I'm not riding until I get my new rubber in this week. [sm=smiley19.gif]

Glad you made it out unharmed and without damage to the bike. Sounds about what happened to me except mine wasn't going to lowside at all - just high side. Mine happened so fast I was on my *** before I knew what was going on, and same thing, I just keep replaying it over and over. Gravel is a ****.
