Afternoon all,

I've been left scratching my head over this one.
My 2001 600 F Sport has developed a hell of a rattle from the left hand side of the engine. I dropped into a local (trusted) mechanic a few weeks ago who changed the CCT for me for a new genuine Honda one, checked timing, did an oil + filter change (no metal in either the filter or oil) When I picked the bike up, I was told "It's a bit tappety". Wonderful news...

I've got another mechanic looking at it now, and everything seems to be coming up okay, bike passed all compression tests, and apparently all valves are within spec, and the timing is fine.
The bike still pulls as it should, and still runs normally, it just sounds like a tin of ball bearings.

Any ideas? Hopefully it's not the big or little end or anything terminal!

I don't have a freakin' clue but hope you can get it figured out!

 

have you tried the cam chain tensioner mine went bad after a while and I put a manual tensioner and poof bye bye rattle

 

Make sure its not an exhaust gasket blown out! they make a strange noise when they do.
