Default Tires

I know this has been brought up many times but I am gonna bring it up again. I need a new back tire. I noticed the cords showing so I best get a new one. Can someone suggest a good back tire and what they run? I am a sensible rider and only ride on highway and back roads. I want a good tire but nothing real salty in price.

Thanks in advance

Tom

For a little less agressive riding style and more mileage, I always recommend what I run... Metzeler Roadtec Z6. It's a sport-touring tire mostly but has very good grip. If you were doing trackdays and such then it probably wouldn't be the best choice, but for highway riding with an occasional twisty or two, it's great! I usually get 10-13k miles out of my rear, got 26k out of the front. Not too expensive either

yes, it does depend on you style of riding. the local group i ride with consists of variuos sport bikes with several f4i's like to run pilot roads for overall good performance and decent mileage. i just recently put on a pilot power (after a nail at 100 miles on my new bike). i now have about 400 miles on them and i love em. don't know yet about the mileage i'll get off them. i had a set of Z6's on my previous bike (vfr) and didn't care for them plus only got about 3000 miles. not much for a sport touring tire i don't think - but my right hand does get a bit heavy at times. i tried dunlop D208's and i liked them very much but traded the bike off before i wore them out. my buddy uses them on his blackbird and says he only gets about 2500 miles off the rear.

for sporty type riding just about any of the big names have good tires: metzler M1, Dunlop D208 (or the new qualifier), michelin pilot power or roads. never tried the pirelli but hear good things about them as well. the new cbr came with bridgestone 010s. after the first 50 miles, i started pushing them a bit (not much) and they seemed ok. D*#% nail!!!

Michelin Pilot Road seems to be good for commuting http://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/fr...142252&lang=EN

I currently have Pilot Powers and I love them

That's poor! You should be able to get at least 5-6k out of a rear. Unless, of course, you're doing burnouts or something . .

or he's just a hardcore rider or has something above a 600...014s don't last very long mang...
if you change the rear you should change the front as well.

as far as tires go, you can drag knee and ride aggressive with dunlop 207s if you're smooth enough. if you're going for mileage, stay away from the dual compound street/track tires, stick with the sport riding/touring tires.

I ride very hard and alot of corners. It's funy to hear people talk about how much they ride when I put around 12000 miles a year on my bike and alot of 500-600 mile trips at a time, and I'm not in the country but 9 months. I like to wear out the sides before the center.

I am a big fan of the Metzler M1's.
They warm up fast, and feel great once they do. I just bought some today for about $222 dollars shipped.
