Default tire safety question

i have a spot on my rear tire about half the size of a dollar bill that is worn through pretty good and the cords are showing. I went to a local victory dealer, because they are very close and they said they tend to shy away from those bikes, so anyway i dont know how fast this thing is going to wear from there until the inevitable, but do you think it would be safe to ride it maybe 30 miles to the next closest dealer, or should i just get a trailer and bring it. i could take mostly backroads too. no highway.

Buddy that doesn't sound safe at all. Trailer it or take it off and drive it to the tire place. If that thing goes while you are riding, you are SOL.

Yea I agree with muckdawg, I'd just take the tire itself to the place. If cords are already showing, you probably wouldn't make it.

I dont have experiance with riding on a bad tire. Take it off the bike and take it in to get changed.

I have a strip that is showing metal on my rear and im planning on riding it to my boys house (15) miles away to take it off so I can then goto a shop to be mounted. I just plan on riding slow and trying to stay off the center! its prob not a smart idea but he has the air tools I need to pull it off. All back raods for me!

it's not so scary , believe me, just take it easy. i've seen guys ride the tires which had the full radial line of metal in the center...

so there ya go it's ur a$$ on the line, Go with ur gut instinct. Be careful on new tire. let it break in a bit. Some times they can be a bit slippery at first.

Very true....they say a break in time for a new tire is 100 - 200 miles...or a heavy burnout!!!

I had cords showing on my bike and rode for another 500 miles before I replaced it. Then we burned the tire off before I put a new one on. And underneath the cords we saw, there was like 5 layers of rubber before the "really bad" cords were actually showing. You should be fine to ride 30 miles, just don't rip the throttle hard and take your corners slow.
