You should try ordering new tires. Your bike will handle better with a matched set of new rubber.
Your tire guy was trying to give you good advice. There are wear bars in the tread block that indicate the tire is worn out. Oncethe wear bars are even with the surface the tire should be replaced.Tires are one areanot to be cheap. I know there are a lot of people who run take offs.
