tips for removing oil filter
changing oil for the first time, the oil filter is on very tight and i can't get it to budge.
Besides buying a special tool, how do i get it off? |
if your hand is just slipping on it try using a towel to get a better grip.
other than that go buy a wrench |
ok got it, just had to stop being lazy and remove the cowl to get a better angle.
yeah i used the oil filter wrench |
not the best idea but in a pinch it works: get a long philips head screwdriver... pound it straight through the filter at an angle with good leverage, then turn... breaks it loose every time
|
removed mine with everything intact. using the wrench was a pita but i got it off.
|
I ran into the same situation and removed the right side lower cowl too. Got at it with a scissor-style filter wrench and it twisted free.
|
Last person who put it on did it too tight..Try to borrow a wrench from a friend...in the future just put it on correctly and you wont have to use one again.

Nonsense. Wrench's a for non imaginative goofs. Go to a hardware store, I got mine at Menards. Get one of those jar openers, with the rubber strap, with a long handle, just slide it over, pull it tight, and twist, great for on and off. Worked like a charm for only 5 bucks. and you have it for jars.

i got lucky at work the other day and was changing oil on a 1krr and someone at another dealer had left a filter socket on the guys bike
i have one at work...now i have one at home too |
