Ok, so I have given up trying to fix my bike. Basically, it has a bit of a miss fire and also runs rich. Really rich, 20 miles or less to the gallon rich. At night, the exhaust gets so hot from the extra fuel, it glows red. Anyway, I have tried lots of stuff, new plugs, new coil packs, fixing problems I cause, bla bla bla. The back is TOTALLY stock. The "F1" light isnt on nor is the engine light, so I have no idea what the deal is. Maybe a bad sensor or something. Well, sadly it is time to take it to the shop and have a pro look at it. That actually sounds lean - not rich. As confusing as it is - backfiring is a lean condition, not a rich condition... and running lean runs a lot hotter than running rich.

Have you put a new exhaust on, or some other mod to make it flow better? Was the bike setup for sea level and you live on a huge mountain?

 

I live in san diego, about 100 feet above sea level. It was bought here, so it should be fine. As for lean, I understand, but if you run it and then stand behind it, it smells like gas, REAL bad. Also, it fouls plugs. Like, last night I pulled the plugs and the middle 2 plugs were black as night. So yea, I really dont know. Oh, and no, the exhaust is stock. EVERYTHING is stock.

 

That sounds like a much more *interesting problem*... where it is 2 of the 4 cylanders it sounds as if you have a different problem than simply lean/rich... fingers crossed the shop can find it easily. On the carbed version I'd have said dirty carbs... [sm=smiley23.gif]

 

Yea, I hope they can find it easy. I like my paychecks and I would like to keep them! Haha

 

I don't know if this effects it, but what octane rating are you using on your bike? Maybe that can effect it? Have you tried putting in some fuel injector cleaner in your fuel? I am guessing you have fuel injection since your in the F4i forum, so its probably not carbs. Keep us posted on how you fix this issue.

 

sounds like an electrical issue w/ the FI system...

Yup sounds like the FI system to me too, possibly a PCM.

wow man. that sounds like a mess. do you disconnect the battery before you disconnect the ECU? if there wasanyelectricity that was discharged into the ECUit couldhave fried it. I'm not sure what all will cause the FI light to come one.. but it could also be you timing is off slightly.
