ticking sound
i noticed today that there is a slight ticking sound while riding the bike. is that anything to be alarmed about or is it normal? new to riding and just curious if i should be too concerned w/ the sound. its faint but w/ a helmet off you can hear it a bit better.

RE: ticking sound
how many miles? probably normal;)

RE: ticking sound
mine does it too, i havent figured out if its the CCT, or just a normal tick.

RE: ticking sound
only 4600 miles and its in MINT condition. i cant recall if i heard it or not when i first got it.....lol, too excited. i've only been on the back road i live on since i havent gotten tags (get'n those wednesday). like i said, its pretty faint, but w/o a helmet its slightly more noticable. but i havent done anything too it or "dogged" it, nor was it "dogged" before i bought it.

RE: ticking sound
probably just a normal engine sound. i've owned all of the big 4 japanese makes at one time or another and they were all equally noisy. remember your cage engine has all that insulation and bodywork around it to muffle out the sound. if i pop the hood on my civic its just as noisy as any japanesebike;)

RE: ticking sound
Uhh your valves might need adjusting? And I dont know whether these engines have pushrods in them but I know ina Mustang if its a distinct ticking its probably a pushrod, which is not good! Oh if it only starts ticking whenyou accelerate, not when idding, then it may be the header gasket going bad.

RE: ticking sound
f4i's are dual overheadcam engines with chain driven cams.some ticking is normal.the valves need to be checked every 15000 miles according to the manual but no harm in doing it earlier. my bud hada superhawk he put 34000 miles on before he sold it. checked the valves at 15 and 30 thousand and they werewell withinspec.;)
