Throttle Freeplay

I had to adjust my throttle out 1/8 of an inch on the adjustment screw due to the free play. Am i just being anal about free play or is the cable actually stretching? Any ideas?

Probably a little of both. It'll stretch some over time, maybe it wandered around a little and found some extra slack, etc.

Thanks man, have you ever tightened yours?

Aken 04-08-2011 11:19 PM

Yes mine gained a lot of free play over time, so I tightened it last year.

Even brand new bikes on the showroom floor have excessive slack in the throttle.

That being said I've tightened mine up pretty good a few years back and haven't had to mess with it since. Just feels like you have more control with taught cables.

Sorry to bring this thread back but lately I've noticed that I need to twist the throttle alot more, feels like there is more freeplay than when I first bought the bike. Can someone explain to me how to adjust the freeplay?
