thermostat location
Hey everyone, I just bought a CBR so I am new to to this forum so please bear with me. I was just wondering can someone point me to the general location ofthe thermostat housing on a01 f4i? I bought a manual but the picture is so close up I cant even tell where it is. I appreciate the help.

RE: thermostat location
Unless you have a sticking thermostat, leave it alone. All too often new owners of pre-owned bikes cause more trouble with maintenance by trying to prevent something that doesn't exist.
In all the time, I've been on this forum, I cannot recall a thermostat failure.
Honda makes a good machine. Just do regular maintenance, like oil, chain and sprokets, etc. If you're concerned about the cooling system, then a flush would suffice. Here's the procedure on a 600RR. Procedure is nearly identical on F4i. http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/248112.aspx

RE: thermostat location
^^ Agreed...
Change it when the temp will not come up to operating and stay there (Somewhere between 180 and 220 when the fans kick on) or it frequently overheats (above 220 ish even after moving for a while)
There is no mileage specification - 165K on my van, never changed it, 180K on my Cadillac, put 3 in so far. - Autos seem to have a problem where they stick ON so the engine never comes up to temp and you get terrible mileage. - Most frequent complaints around this site are engine runs too hot - though the consensus on that problem is the Fan not turning on (Blown Fuse).

RE: thermostat location
yeah i've never heard of a thermostat failing on an F4i... ever. it's not unusual for your temps to get up to 230F. Highest i've seen mine is 231. Even then, you're good up to 254F (that's when annuncators start going off).
Need more info. What's the bike doing? Is the overflow overflowing? Has the thermostat been checked? I've seen bikes boil over at temperatures over 212F due to impurities in the coolent...
If you get it out of the bike, put it into a pan of boiling water on the stove. See if it opens somewhere between 170 & 195 degrees. If it doesn't move in boiling water, or if it sticks when it cools down, then that's your problem...
Like I said, never heard of one failing in an F4i, but anything's possible i suppose...
