Taillight voltage problem
 

Okay, so long story short, I blew the LED's in my current taillight, so I tested the voltage that is being given off buy the running lights and the actual brake light. They both read 26v, arn't these taillights only made for 12v of power?

Just ordered another taillight and am trying not to put this one to waste as well.

I'm not sure how you're running 26 volts, anywhere on the bike.
The max voltage you should be putting out is 14.8.

Are you sure you are testing correctly and in the correct range?

Yes, I can get a picture of it if you would like? If this is the case, then wouldn't putting a resistor in the running/brake light wires fix the problem?

My concern is how you're getting that much voltage in the harness in the first place.

I would take a look at the regulator/rectifier (r/r) and see if it is going out on you.

Look for heat damage on it and the wiring connector. Warped/melted plastic, burnt
pins, melted insulation on the wires, cracks in the epoxy-fill of the r/r.

The r/r should be regulating the voltage from the stator and if you are getting 26 volts
to your tail-lights, it doesn't sound like it is doing it's job.

I'm gonna feel like an idiot asking this, but where is the rectifier located? Can you get me a picture of where it plugs in? Thanks!

RR locates right side under the rear fender cover....26V? I'm surprise the fuse didn't blew ?

A fuse blows because of to many amperes, not voltage, and thanks for the location of the rectifier, but where does it plug in at?
