Tail Swap 04-06 to 01-03
I'm currently a Ducati rider and looking to add an F4i to my garage. The one I have my eye on is a low mileage 2006 with the extended banana seat. I will want to change to the split seat design of 01-03. I have tried searching but I cannot find a clear and definitive answer on what parts are required to do the swap.
I am guessing that at least the following is required: 1. 01-03 Plastic tail fairing piece 2. 01-03 Rear Subframe 3. 01-03 Undertail I will want to purchase a Corbin or equivalent seat pad and a paint matched rear seat piece. I would greatly appreciate clarification on which parts are needed and what kind of labor is involved. Also, where to go shopping for these parts. Thanks! |
You got it. Its a basic bolt on mod. You'll also need a taillight.

Hey whats up buddy!! I have a subframe/battery tray & front seat off a 01-03 F4i. I was planning on doing the swap on my bike, but I sold it before I got a chance to do it. I also have the step by step directions(pictures included) on how to install it along with the additional parts you have to purchase & the website to purchase it from. PM an email address & I can send you pics of everything. The one thing you forgot on your list to buy is a taillight. I've talked to a couple people who have done the conversion & they both said it was one of the easiest conversions to do to an F4i. Let me know if you are interested

i never seen anyone want to go back a couple years in design... but you pretty much got it... the subframes are almost teh same so i dont see moving anything around going to be an issue

alex I have a stock 01-03 tail light I would be happy to sell you. I bought it on eBay some time ago and never used it on my 2005.

what kind of Duc do you have? Just curious.
Also, Depending on the color you get, matching could be a pain. It could be as simple from just buying a different part, to having to go to a custom paint job. I know with my candy red, and Dave will agree, that swapping would be a pain. |
matching paint is no problem..just shoot the paint color of your current color at the paint store, they will mix it perfectly. it matches better than new OEM plastics cause its all sun faded too
