Tail Fairing Issues - Cracking

1 Attachment(s)
Hello fellas - I've been hanging around for a while but haven't posted.

I bought a 2003 CBR600F4i last week with 10600 miles on it (your basic silver/black, I'll post pics later), anyways I've noticed that the rear fairing is cracking, by the seat/tank section.

Now, I know I have to replace this (< $200) but my question is: if I buy a new one, won't it end up the same way? Or is this one old and weathered, hence the reason for the cracks? I've been thinking about getting this one.

Is this one sturdier than the oem? Any thoughts?

Sorry for the HUGE picture - tried to resize...

Um i have that problem too, should fix it with some bondo or something, no need to replace its just gonna crack again. Mine cracked in the exact same location.

Mine used to crack there as well. its a common problem. I replaced the whole tail cone, but that was because i replaced all the fairings.

you dont need to really replace it. You can glue it back together or just ignore it. Its not a big deal

For cracks onfairings I would plastic weld it but it will need to be repainted. I use "permapoxy" 5 minute plastic weld. Its cheap and its strong. Better than buying a new fairing.

That’s an awful design flaw. I can see how lifting the tank would cause it, but with me it appeared to have progressively gotten worse every time I sit on it. It also rubs against the tank; something else I’d like to address.

I'll give that a try; sure beats paying for a new tail. I'm wondering if a piece of PVC tubing as reinforcement will work.

Thank you guysfor the input... Here's a pic

i don't. that might make me the retarded one... :)

when i do that with a full tank, sometimes i drop it thru the frame and i spend the next 5 minutes cussing and screaming.

full tanks ftw.

[sm=roll.gif] That's freakin funny!

Went ahead and triedthe epoxy but was like,"man, this ain't gonna work." So I picked up some fiber glass. Fortunately, I've handled some before with my dad. Although you can't tell by looking at my sloppy work.

This side's really messed up - needs more work.

Although it's considerably stronger, I'm still thinking that the little hole isn't going to support the weight (as suggested before). So I'm thinkingthat a denser foam, and more of it, ought to providethe requiredsupport.
Thanks Tahoe
