Default Stripped oil drain plug suggestions

So the PO apparently tightened the drain plug too tight and it stripped when I removed it to change true oil. It's not completely stripped but it won't completely tighten. When the motor is warm it expands and doesn't leak but after sitting it will leak just a Lil bit. What's the best remedy. Remove oil pan and drill it out and recut new threads or can I use a helicoil? Suggestions appreciated!

i would rethread the oil pan and put a new, slightly bigger size plug.

You can use a helicoil
You can also rethread it and use a slightly bigger bolt
I'd try using two washers instead of one - you may get it to "bite" without having to do either of the above.
Only a temporary solution, but will be OK to the end of riding season, and then do 1 or 2.

+1

But it WILL need repairing. Last thing you want is to be tipping into a corner and the plug lets go, with oil getting on the rear tyre.

Ugly

Although a heli-coil would probably be less expensive, I would use a Time-Sert. They have kits specifically for oil pans.

Great thanks. I constantly worry about it while I'm riding but it's been good so far. I'm hoping it will make it till the next oil change at least.
