Street speeds?

How fast do you guys ride on the street? Is it generally at the speed limit or well above it?

RE: Street speeds?

Just a little above. Only had a hard riding day with my squidly friends once where i was consistently in triple digits and i didnt really like it.

5 over is about average for me.

RE: Street speeds?

a little above the speed limit. i took my 00'R6 way out in the country and hit an indicated 154 mph. never did that again because i started thinkin about 145 what if a rabbit darts out right now. i nearly sharted in my pants[sm=nono.gif]

RE: Street speeds?

At 145 if you hit a rabit do you think you'd have problems or just squish it feel a bump and keep going? At that speed I think the bike would just stay straight for something that small? I don't know. /shrug

what about a turtle?[sm=owned.gif]

jerrad 07-12-2006 06:01 PM

RE: Street speeds?

at 145 you should rename a turtle and call it a ramp.

ninetyfivehp 07-12-2006 06:08 PM

RE: Street speeds?

your definitely goin pastrana if you hit that turtle/ramp.

jerrad 07-12-2006 06:25 PM

RE: Street speeds?

Yeah and probably like pastrana when he dislocated his spine from his pelvis. That was nasty.

Usually drive a little over, but I do open it up a bit on back roads and on the interstate. No stunting, but certainly faster than is prudent.

If I wanted to go slow, I would have gotten a cruiser.

about 7-10 over depending on where im riding as i know where most of the cops are posted up. i wont hit over 100 on roads, unless its the interstate or a backroad ive been on many times before

RE: Street speeds?

I usually ride about ten over on me speedo, which is way off. It reads a lot over, but I don't know how much. I figure it's about 7 off, so I ride 3 over.

But when I look down I still feel like a rebel because I'm doing "55" in a 45.

robert4 07-13-2006 12:15 AM

RE: Street speeds?

usually 5 to 10 over indicated, speedo reads 7% fast. maybe 1 or 2 quick blasts to 110-140. agree with the earlier post about worrying about animals at high speeds. heard one old guy's advice about hitting animals with your motorcycle " if its bigger than something you could eat at one sitting, don't run over it."

RojerLockless 07-13-2006 01:43 AM

RE: Street speeds?

a bit over, hardly ever the speed limit unless I know there is a speed trap, but i'v toped my bike out at 165 once bounching off redline

I live in Atlanta and everyone drives fast here...Serious riders. I average about 90mp outside of rush hour. When we ride together it always well over 100mph on the interstates. Cops don't even bother to chase us

RE: Street speeds?

back in 01 when i first got a streetbike used to go 120+ everywhere i could lol. Now i basically just putt around and do wheelies way slower than traffic.

Even just cruisin i usually just do the speed limit with the occasianal burst here and there

lifties 07-13-2006 05:06 PM

RE: Street speeds?

You guys are making me like I'm some crazy, irresponsible rider. If I rode at the speed limit, I would get run over. Of course this is socal. I ride 80-90 on the freeway, with burst up to 110 when I'm feeling lucky and just slightly faster than traffic on city streets. I split lanes on the highway if traffic is moving slower than 25-30 and I always split lanes to the front of a stop light.

Of course, when my girlfriend is in tow with her EX250, everything gets reduced by 1/3. Her bike won't do much more than 80 without a lot of vibration and she has no acceleration.

markobenin 07-13-2006 05:20 PM

RE: Street speeds?

Well sure i do about 80 on the freeway in Socal, any trouble with the popo so far the way you're riding? My first week having my bike I've been doing 15-20mph over the speed limit, but I think I'll slow down, I donno how lenient they are on speeding tickets here.

RE: Street speeds?

I do about 40 down side streets and between 85-100 on the highway

RE: Street speeds?

Theres speed limits??? Oops. Na seriously, I don't ever bother looking at the speedo. Too much else around to pay attention to. I just go with the flow untill someone pisses me off, at which point down comes the hammer for a little while. I might do 5-10 faster than the flow of traffic.

lifties 07-14-2006 02:05 PM

RE: Street speeds?

I haven't had any tickets yet. Knock on wood! Cops don't seem to mess with people out here.

I'm glad to hear that lifties, cuz like I said, I'm in socal myself and don't know how the cops treat us sport bikers. I'm cautious because my dad got 2 BS tickets (one for passing cars on the shoulder, another for splitting lanes when he was in the carpool lane[:'(] ).
