Strange Idle Problem
Hi All. Im having a little trouble with the idling on my F4i. In the mornings when i start the bike it idles around 3000rpm for about 60 seconds. This then increases to around 5000rpm for at least 10-15 minutes, it'll then settle at around 1400rpm for the rest of my journey.
Could anyone point me in the right direction to fix this problem? Thanks! |
Check your IAT (top of airbox) is connected 100% properly.
|
make sure your coolant is full also. it needs to see coolant warming up to regulate the idle speed.
|
Thanks - i'll take a look at both your suggestions and report back.

My bike is now doing some strange idling as well. Over the weekend it took a spill as I was going around a turn. Car went wide causing me to go wide. Basically, the bike got on some wet grass on the side of the road and WOOOOP off I went and it went down (throttle side into the soft wet grass) It broke off my right front turn signal (so now when I click on the ride blinker it goes really fast...guess this is because nothing it connected without the relay)
The bike seems to be riding fine...when it dumped over I guess I was going about 20 mph or less. Now I've noticed it slowly increasing the idle from 1400 and within a minute is creeping up to over 2000 to 2300. I know this isn't normal. Any ideas? I've got an 06 F4i, no manual...found one online for 01-03 but CAN NOT seem to find the throttle adjust screw that they're trying to show in a diagram. I'm not even sure if that would solve the problem since it starts out fine but increases within a minute or two of starting up and then just stays up around 2200 rpm. help :( |
Hi Guys
I checked the IAT and it was connected fine. I cleaned the connections and while there i changed the airfilter. The coolant is also ok. unfortunately the problem is still there.. any other ideas? |
Hi everyone
Does anyone know of anything else i could try? Thanks |
Wax unit may be malfunctioning.

Is this something i could replace? |
it is replaceable, and its fairly simple, but it does take removal of some things to get to. i'm not sure if you could do it or not. it depends on how mechanically inclined you are.
