Stator Crack issue question
Hello-
I just took out my new bike for the first time this weekend, and I was learning to ride when the person teaching me was turning around and tipped it. It slid about 4 inches, and scraped up the fairing very minory, but the real issue I have is the stator cover.
I noticed some scuffing on it and when I was letting it sit running it is slowly dripping what looks like oil. The leak is slow, and it is coming from what seems to be a very small fracture on the stator cover. I am new to bikes and I thought the stator was just basically the alternator and had no oil by it.
I want to know whether I can just replace the Stator cover or if I should just take it in because it is a bigger issue? It's an 01 CBR f4i if that matters...
Thank you for your help.
PS My "teacher" felt terrible about the tip and I mean it is my first bike so I figured it would happen sooner or later, but rather...with me driving it...haha. Oh well it happens.

RE: Stator Crack issue question
draining the oil makes sense though... before you replace the stator cover. store it for refilling, or just change oil/filter to make sure none of the stator cover filings get into the crankcase. and +1, get a gasket
It's a common issue with slides. After running through a couple of stator covers for minor crashes I bought an NRC cover which is thicker/stronger. so far so good

RE: Stator Crack issue question
he only put 1k miles on it in 2 years. he said when he bought it that he drove it home and then the battery wouldnt take a charge, after he replaced the battery it still happened so he replaced the voltage reg, didnt fix it, then he found a frayed wire in the stator, replaced it and never had a problem again.
