Default Starting Bike in Gear

I picked up an 01 F4i with about 22k miles on it. One item I'm concerned about is that the bike will not start in gear with the clutch in. This is both with the kick stand up and down. What could be going on here? A related problem is that especially after a stall, it's hard to find neutral. By hard I mean I'm shifting up and down and not seeing the nuetral indicator light up, letting me know it's in neutral so that I could start the bike. Anyone have any ideas?

Any help is appreciated!

When you are trying to find neutral are you actually shifting gears from 1st to 2nd? Can you "half shift" into neutral, push the bike with the clutch out to make sure you are in neutral, but the light still isn't on?

No, the issue is not me missing neutral and going from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st. I know to half shift to find neutral. It's just after a stall and sometimes when starting up, it's hard to get the bike into neutral.

Just roll her forward a bit and let out the clutch then try again.

Mine sometimes takes a few clicks up and down to get it in N and other times its perfect

+1 on rolling the bike forward and back. also, it does sound like your clutch switch could be bad. are the wires connected tight?
