start a bike with tires off, safe????

It's fine.

If you start your bike and if it is in N and without wheels on, the bike doesn't know any difference. If you are near a Walmart, or similar, invest in a battery tender designed for motorcycle batteries. $20 - $25 should be all you would pay.

^^ what he said. Get a battery tender. I got mine from the battery store for thirty bux. Keep it charged, beats having to get a new battery.

You can also just remove the battery if you're going to work on the bike for extended periods. My dad does that with his car when he puts it away for the winter. Then come spring, he just puts the battery in and it starts right up after ~6 months of sitting there.

It's going to drain anyways. Your battery won't charge just sitting there at idle. Gotta be out riding it.. so best idea is get a tender.

how about revving it, idling and revving in diff. intervals for 5-10mins ??

gump 06-21-2009 11:32 PM

SPend the 25 bucks dude...

Azriel 06-22-2009 07:53 AM

yeah great idea, start and rev the cold engine to keep the battery charged :icon_doh:

as the nice people here already have said, get yourself one of those battery tenders.

just out of curiosity, have you finally got yourself some new tires? or are you still out on the look :icon_couchhide: :icon_razz:
