For the folks that have powder coated their frame (or even just taken their frame away from the bike) how much trouble is it to get the engine out? I have stands now, but I'm -real- leery of taking my bike completely apart given my level of mechanical expertise (or lack thereof.) That said, I plan on having all the fairings off, ripping off the headers and exhaust and gas tank anyway this summer (stuff I've already done, on this bike or others) plus the wheels (which I haven't done) so at that point it seems like it's just a matter of getting the engine out...?

Some of the black paint on my frame (OEM, it's an 01) got chipped off or eaten off by chemicals; would I have to sand the whole thing down before taking it to a powder coater? How much should I expect it to cost (roughly) for a powder coated frame?

Would the results be a lot better than trying to (carefully) spray it with high heat paint and a whole lot of clear considering that spraying it wouldn't require removing the engine and would be a ton cheaper?

Anyone have pics of a sprayed frame?

The powdercoaters will media blast it before they do the powdercoating so you will not need to do any prep work at all. Unless you want to.

As for getting the engine out, I haven't tried on this bike, but usually you can just use a car jack to drop it out the bottom. It is very simple to do!

I vinyl wrapped my duct covers .... its annoying because the shape, but the result is pure sexyness.... especially with the carbon fiber "3d" texture.
