Default speedometer

pk so i have a 01 f4i with 22700 miles, about 2 weeks ago my speedometer began to read zero while i was driving, one min the speed will read just fine then the next it will just display a zero, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, when im drivin and the speed is reading zero my f1 check engine light will come on, if i shut the bike off and restart it then the speedometer works just fine, just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem and what it entailed to fix it, was it a wiring issue or is it the speed cencor in the trani

It's a dirty or faulty speed sensor.I say more faulty than dirty but if you are mechanically inclined you might want to have a go at cleaning it. I’m stupid so I had it replaced. The manual will tell you what error thefi light is giving you, if I remember speed sensor is no. 11. There are plenty of write-ups on how to do it.

Parts and labour came to around $ 150, but I'm on the other side of the world (central Mediterranean) and I'm friends with the shop I went to, so you are better off asking someone in your area.
