So I want a high mount like everybody else
But I don't want to buy another slip on. I have an akrapovic pipe now and would like to keep it. I went to an exhaust shop today and the guy didn't want to mess with it. I'll check with more exhaust shops later, but as of now...
That guy suggested I go to a local welder. The welder can't bend pipe, BUT he could take straight pieces of pipe and some bent pieces of pipe and weld something up. The end result would be a bunch of small pieces welded together.
Do you think this would look messy? I think it would look street-fighter-ish and really badass, but I"m not sure if it will look hard core or ghetto rigged.
discuss.

This really boils down to the skills of the welder and how much time you are willing to pay for. If he has a lot of experience working with stainless and he does it right, it will look great! But if the welds aren't close to perfect it will look rigged up. I would put some feelers out, talk to the welder myself and make sure he doesn't have any reservations before going ahead with it!

I don't know much about welding. Does stainless need to be welded in an oxygen free environment? Or is that titanium?
And I'm a bigger fan of aluminum than steel, but I'm pretty sure no one makes aluminum tubing for exhausts. Right? The only systems I've seen for mx bikes are Ti or stainless (for headers at least

Titanium welds are more brittle if they are contaminated with oxygen, stainless has no issues with oxygen. It is fairly hard to weld if you are not used to working with it though. Aluminum is a pain to work with and wouldn't really suit the application.
Honestly, it would probably be in your best interest to just find a used high mount on craigslist or eBay. You know it is going to look good and it will proably end up costing you less.

This is a job for a muffler/exhaust shop not a welder. Why didnt the guy want to mess with it? He has to take a couple measurements and make two bends in the pipe technically. Theres a little more to it than that to make it look nice but it should be a fairly simple job for someone working at one of those places. Id definitely suggest taking your bike somewhere else. Im sure youll find someone thatll gladly do it for a reasonable price.

If you do stainless you can grind down and polish the weld enough that they disappear. Essentially with some time and effort, you or whoever you're having do it could, make it look like one solid bent piece of stainless pipe with no welds what so ever. I watched them do it on one of those muscle car shows on Spike TV on saturday mornings. You really couldn't see the weld at all. Google it and you may find exactly how it's done.

Okay apparently no one on the entire western side of Pennsylvania has a mandrel bender. My only option is to buy elbows and straight pipe from the stainless man and have it welded together. My first priority is an undertail, but I am sure this will be done at some point in the near future. I'll keep you guys posted
