Snatchy Throttle
 

I have 2002 F4I low milage bike it starts up fine, ticks over fine and revs fine. Never misses a beat.

However I find the bike rubbish around town, slow driving. I find the throttle very snatchy.

Going around a traffic Island or a corner can be a nightmare with the on off gas reaction I get.

I am a very experienced rider been riding longer then I care to remember so I dont lug engines. Last service was

about 1500 miles back which included new Iridiam plugs. The old plugs by the way showed me no probs with how the

engine was running.

My question is would a power commander cure this problem ! I really dont want to lay out 300 plus for something

that wont cure it. However if it will smooth it out I will do it.

Does anyone else have the same problem as me ? And if so and you fitted a PC did it really make a difference ?

Have you adjusted the freeplay on the throttle, it makes a big difference.

Throttle free play is good. That was the first thing I checked.

Have you given the injectors a look? Fuel filter? Fuel pump? Anytime hesitation or jerkiness is involved I start with the fuel delivery system.

Could also be a dead spot in the TPS.

No. I would have thought not. The bike runs great through all the rev range, never misses a beat no flat spots no back firing coming off the gas.

Its just when I slow right down for a tight turn when i start to give it some gas again that the problem happens. It feels like its me being snatchy with the gas except its not.

Had the same sort of problem with Yamaha xt models. Wel known. Very nervous, the only thing that ever cured them was a PC.

TPS ! Throttle pressure sensore. Dont know maybe worth a look, would it cause the sort of problem Im having if it went bad

Throttle position sensor.

If it has a dead spot around the fully closed position, the first reading it gives the ECU is at an open position. It's pretty easy to test with an ohmmeter as it is just a variable resistor that changes resistance with throttle position.

OK, good thanks for that. Im away from the bike foe a couple of weeks will check it out when Im back.

Have also found I have a very tight chain in one place. That may have to be changed. could have something to do with it...

F4i's don't have twitchy throttles, so something is up with your bike
