Default Slipping out of 2nd gear

Hey Guys,
Ive noticed on my bike if I let her loose in 1st gear that when I switch to second and keep on the throttle it will be fine for about 3k rpm's then it slips out of gear?
I thought I might be ***** shifting, but even when I slam it into second it will slip out unless I shift real slow. and I know Im not missing the gear beause it will accelerate for about 2 secs in 2nd before it comes out.

Thanks,

Dog ears are basically tabs on the inside of the gear. If they are worn, you will need to replace that gear.

What kind of repair and cost is involved with that? Roughly speaking of course

AND the window gear. If you just replace the male gear (with the dogs) you're farting in the wind and will be re-doing the job soon. Both gears "should" be less than 200. If you can't do it yourself, labor at a shop is going to kill you.

I pulled the parts fiche, but I am not sure which one is 2nd gear. More than likely you are going to have to change two of the gears since they interlock. On average the gears are about $80 each, so $160 give or take for the two you will need to change. If you do it yourself you are going to save a ton... Use the manual and take your time. If you take it to Honda, I would say $500 +...

It's ALOT more expensive where I live for a shop to do it. Local Honda shop would charge close to a grand just for labor. I do it for half that (labor only). I don't have F4i manual handy but usually it's 5th or 6th that you replace with 2nd. If you plan on keeping the bike (and dogs aren't worn too badly) some shops will repair and undercut the dogs for just a little more than 2 new gears would cost (that's the entire shaft 1st through 4th). Bike will shift alot better with the undercut. Just throwing that out there.
Be prepared for sticker shock if you call Honda dealer for a quote.

X2 on bleheny's suggestion to do it yourself. See if someone besides Honda makes a manual for it (factory manuals suck at explaining the process). Like he said, take your time. If you run into a snag, post question and we'll hook you up.

Very easy if you're mechanically capable. Google is your friend, Good Luck!

ps- Don't buy used gears!
