should i do a tune up on my bike at 10k miles?
 

My baby just reached 10k. what kind of tune ups should i do to the bike? I want to keep my baby in shape so all help is appreciated. thank you.

clean air filter, change oil, check plugs n replace if needed. Maybe change the fork oil too.

i would say not much cause your valves are due for adjustment in 6,000 and should be done every 16,000 miles as for your oil that should be changed every 2,500 to 3,000 miles unless your running synthetic then you can stretch another 1,000 out when you do your valve adjustment you have to pull the cover which means you have to pull the plugs that is the best time to change your plugs and get the throttle bodies synched and you can do your air filter when every you want i have a BMC so i check mine every 5,000 and usually clean it then as for your forks you should check them every year or two depending on how much you ride

When you pull your plugs check them for wear and fouling. My service manual says if they look anything but pristine then you should replace them. Don't clean them, replace them. Here's the problem, they cost $16 each! You can clean your air filter out a few times before needing a new one or buy a washable K&N for about $70. Plan on shelling out $300 - $400 for a valve adjustment. I'd say if you haven't noticed performance issues you can probably wait in your adjustment. If you have the cash, get it done on schedule!

Not unless you see excessive wear. Check the chain for play. Keep it with about 1 3/8 movement up and down in the middle of the chain. If you do see wear in either the chain or the sprockets you have to replace all of them.

This is from my Clymer manual. The only things you should be replacing (unless worn out) in the first 24,000 miles is:

Engine oil and filter - Every 8,000 miles (I'd do it every 5,000 - 6,000 using synthetic)
Spark Plugs - Every 8,000 miles
Air Filter - Every 12,000 miles
Brake Fluid - Every 12,000 miles
Coolant - Every 24,000 miles

This is great cause I was going to post the same 10,000 mile question soon. My oil was changed about 1000 miles ago so that is ok. I dont have a garage to do any work in, plus I dont know how comfortable I am taking everything apart. Im sure its not difficult, but I've never done it. How much would it cost me to get the spark plugs, air filter, and brake fluid changed at the dealer. I know maintance need to be done, but I really hate messing with the bike when it runs perfectly!

Since i should change the spark plugs. What kind do you guys recommend? what is the part number?

Don't Eff around with other brands of plugs. Get the NGK plugs. NGK is the best when it comes to Japanese engines.
