Default Should I buy used Pilot Powers for cheap?

I need a new set of tires.. I found a set of pilot powers for $80. The guy used them as a practice set on his race bike and he says they still have 80% life on them which sounds like plenty for street riding.

The only thing is, they're used, and not just used but track used. Do you guys think this is a good deal? I mean pilot powers run for about $200 for a pair brand new and shipped.

Any input is appreciated.

unless u can actually see them up close and in person, i wouldnt recommend buying used tires whatever they were used for. u dont know if theres a puncture or something wrong with them that u couldnt see in photos.

I see. Well I'll be driving out to go pick them up, he lives about an hour away. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for besides irregular wear and whatnot?

Used track tires have alot of wear on the sides. Why risk it just to save some money. It's your life in your hands. You can get a brand new set of pilot powers of Jake Wilson for 166 shipped. So for 80 more you can do the same.

I'd definently pick them up.

I sell my street tire "take offs" on CL all the time.

Keep in mind that most guys at the track don't wear the center tread at all, and on the edges, we might wear 40-50%... If you think you can even come close to pushing the side wear, then you don't belong on the street...

When going to look at them, just make sure there isn't any "cold tearing". Ask him if he used warmers. I think you'll be quite satisfied with your purchase.

I would. Why not really. People say piece of mind yet you could get a brand new set and something goes wrong. Nothing is safe on two wheels.

This question shouldn't have been posed to a internet full of people as you'll get a different response from everyone. It all boils down to how do YOU feel about buying and running them? Safety wise they're fine. Yes they were used at a track but that just means they have heat cycles and less side tread on them. They aren't track tires so the heat cycles don't matter.

EDIT: ok you did ask for opinons though so I'd say no don't run them. They are just pilot powers, not 2ct's or pures and I see no reason for normal powers on the market anymore.

Its worth checking them out IMO.

If you can inspect them yourself. $80 would be a good deal for 2 PPs with light use.

check to see if they say 2ct on the side in case he missed it

probably not...Some shops( well most around here) will not mount used tires even if you pay them more..Its a liability to them, and you really
