Shorten internal gearing?
Do you guys know anyone markets "performance" transmission parts other than slipper clutches? I'm on an FSAE team and we run the F4i. We have been having issues with chain wrap and packaging in the rear and I was thinking this could be solved by changing the internal gearing. we run a 49/12 final drive (4.08) and any amount we could get that down would help.
Also, if they make it for the 600RR that would help as well, as we may be moving to that engine next year, and this would definitely be a deciding factor Thanks |
Hey man,
I'm not sure about your question but welcome to cbrf! There are a few other SAE formula members and alumni on here as well. If you check the off topic section a couple weeks ago someone was posting about this years build. They might have some info for you? Worth looking into anyway. I'll try to find a link to the thread for you. |

Don't think i've ever heard of aftermarket gear ratios for the f4i but wouldn't a lighter/race chain help with excessive wrap?
|
Thanks for the replies, guys. Regarding a lighter chain; we used to run a 428 but broke chain after chain on hard downshifts, we run a 520 now and can't really go lighter than that. Maybe I'll look into casting my own, shouldn't be too hard :P

You guys registered for Michigan? Also, I gotta ask, why the huge rear roll hoop? that's gotta raise your CG at least an inch! |

You guys registered for Michigan? Also, I gotta ask, why the huge rear roll hoop? that's gotta raise your CG at least an inch! lolol... That is our '05 car that we put together to help promote our organization and to use as a learning tool for some of our inexperienced members. It was fun and a pain at the same time but that thing is like 600+ pounds.. Our upcoming car will be much lighter and sans-megahoop. |
